Dark Mechanicus Army Part 1

Dark Mechanicus

File:Dark Mechanicus Icon.jpg

I'm currently gunning for my first fully painted army in 2 - 3 months time (subject to the arrival of the Airbrush I ordered). The first step is me building my army list.

I want something mechanical and grim dark to represent the technological dark age of the Warhammer 40,000 universe. I have been collecting CSM models but haven't have any solid idea for an army but after buying several dark vengeance boxes I find myself with an abundant supply of helbrutes and adding that with the heldrakes and obliterators I got from a lot sale. I'll be able to represent a fairly fluffy army that I hope will give me and my opponent a good fight.

Aegis Defense Line

"It's easy to be brave behind a castle wall" says an old Welsh Proverb but in the grim darkness of the future an Aegis Defense Line ( ADL) is the go to structure to protect squishies of the 40K universe.

After a long while, I finally got something done. Its not really much but given my short painting experience I have to be contented with this finish for now. This will be a staple for any squishy armies I am looking to start soon (which is after I finished painting everything I have which is quite a lot making this event not happen anytime soon).

How to Paint Aegis Defense Line

I painted my Aegis Defense Line in a very simple fashion and was only able to use up 3 colors (4 if you count the black primer) since a multi-colored Aegis Defense Line will be a happy Aegis Defense Line and a happy ADL is not a acceptable in the grim dark future. It must be grim and it must be dark. Thus the following colors were drafted for this job.

Vallejo Model German Grey
Vallejo Game Stone Wall Grey
Vellejo Game Gun Metal

If you are citadel paint user, you may want to check out this Paint Equivalence Chart.

After priming the all the sections black, the following steps were done.

Step 1: Base Coat Stone Sections with German Grey

Step 2: Dry Brush Stone Portions with Stone Wall Grey (This is actually my first time doing dry brushing and found it quite enjoyable. I couldn't say the same for my paint brush though...)

Step 3: Paint the Frame and Gun Ports with Gun Metal
Step 4: Paint Details with your Preferred Color (I used stone wall grey on the imperial aquila to keep the color count low)

 Where is the Quad Gun?

The quad gun had a bit of problem as they were obtained from the secondary market (but despite this slight inconvenience I still got these toys for a good price). The quad gun is currently enjoying a good degreaser bath and will hopefully be able to join the ADL within a week or so.
